Of course Poto waited till I was gone giving a spinning lesson. I came home & found a little black girl curled up with 2-Damn & Chilly and Poto looking rather surprised nearby. I helped the baby up and made sure she got her first feeding, although Poto kept trying to walk away. I finally got the lambing jug put together and got them both inside under the heat lamp

Murphy, our border collie from Ireland, came out to the barn and was peeking over the door to the pens, wanting to get inside & chase them all around. Not yet Murphy! Wait till they’re older.

2-damn, Chilly, and Valentine all came over & walked right thru the slats in the jug-pen to sniff the new baby. Now I have to come up with a name. She’s black, badger-faced, and incredibly soft.
I ran inside to post these pics but now I have to go finish the chores and get everyone in the barn settled and get bottles for 2-damn & Chilly, then have to fix supper for Brandon while he gets more taps into the maples for sugaring.

It’s starting. Here’s proof. Mud season. Followed shortly by black-fly season, followed by mosquito season, then tourist season, then leaf-peeping season, then the 9 months of why-the-hell-are-we-living-in-Maine season.
So, for your viewing pleasure, especially those who have no concept of what 6′ of frozen ground can look like when it’s thawing out, we have Pics of mud— boot-sucking mud. Pics of animals in mud. Pics of dirty snow. Yup. Mud-season arriveth. Don’t worry, it’ll get worse. Much worse. People from ‘away’ say “What is dirty snow?”. Well, look at the pic. It’s dirty, rotten, and not the white fluffy pretty stuff on the postcards. No one ever takes a pic of the snow when it’s ‘dirty’. Except me. I’m weird.

Here’s a peek inside the peach colored bag (not my favorite). Why it’s the Celtic Braid headband. Knit about 50% of the way till I got bored. The yarn is ‘Purple Mystery’ our Aran yarn that we import from Ireland. There’s enough in one skein to make 6 headbands. Like that would ever happen. I have trouble enough finishing one.
I’m not sure why I was intrigued by this pattern, as I hate wearing hats and hate having anything over my ears — I’m too afraid I won’t hear a charging moose or a black bear waking up from hibernation. I’m sure you’ve all heard that saying “If a tree falls in the forest, and the only person around is wearing a headband & can’t hear a thing, does the tree make any noise?”
